Brazil, Indiana, was first settled by native Indian’s and by the 1840’s farmers moved into the area looking for fertile soil to grow their crops. One of the family farms was named after the country of Brazil. The city was later established in 1866 and officially named Brazil.
In 1956, the country of Brazil gave the city a beautiful fountain as an act of friendship. To this day, the Chafariz Dos Contos stands at the entrance to Forest Park, an ever present reminder of its namesake.
